Craniosacral Therapy was a term first coined by the great osteopath, Dr William Sutherland, at the beginning of the last century. He experienced the bones in the head breathing in relation to each other, through fluctuations that felt like tides in the body. These tides are a rhythmic expression that may be sensed in the anatomy and physiology of all beings.
Breath-like expressions are not a new phenomena and similar experiences have been documented in spiritual texts for thousands of years. It was, however, an exciting discovery and one which connected these expressions to the healing modalities of our time. It has led to the evolution of Craniosacral Therapy as a healing discipline that is popular across the world.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a multi-dimensional system which recognises your body as both a dynamic biological form and a historical library of information. In this way, it's a practice which not only brings attention to the skeletal and nervous systems, but also may bring you relaxation through gentle touch, the joy of shared feelings, the deeper sense of energies and the revelation of unconscious sensations and emotions. Through craniosacral therapy, you can become sensitive to the subtle creative vibration that emerges as we uncover the inherent stillness within.
By deepening our awareness we can begin to perceive this creative vibration expressing itself through the pulsations of our blood, our nervous system and our emotions. During a session you may experience these sensations as pulsations, tingles, coldness, heat and heaviness. You may even feel it as darkness and light or as expansions and contractions. There are many ways in which you may experience these phenomena.
Through the palpitation skills of the practitioner and through resonance and facilitation during your sessions, we will find it easier to bring awareness to these sensations. We can become aware of learned patterns of protection and defences that are carried in every given moment. This helps us to discover patterns of restricted flow where pain and trauma may lie. It is in the gradual awareness of these deeper patterns and sensations where the change and often profound healing can occur. Herein lies our true sense of freedom: a renewed relationship with ourselves where we can develop inner love, empowerment and health.
